Benzoyl peroxide warnings — please read before use

Bleaching hazard: Benzoyl peroxide will permanently bleach and stain fabric, towels, sheets, and clothing. Always use white towels when drying your face and body, and switch to white pillowcases while using this product. Allow skin to dry completely before dressing or getting into bed.
Sun sensitivity: Benzoyl peroxide increases your skin's sensitivity to the sun. Daily SPF 50 is mandatory — apply every morning without exception. Reapply every 2 hours if spending time outdoors.
Application reminder: Do not apply creams or lotions over Acne Med — this interferes with the benzoyl peroxide. Use a gel moisturizer such as Face Reality Hydrabalance instead.
If irritation develops: Discontinue use immediately and contact your Face Reality Acne Specialist.

How to use

Apply a thin, even layer to clean dry skin in the evening as directed during your consultation. Allow to fully absorb before applying moisturizer. Gradually increase to morning and evening use only as tolerated and as directed. Always follow with SPF 50 in the morning — non-negotiable. Important: benzoyl peroxide bleaches fabric — use white pillowcases and towels.

Step 2 — Apply before Acne Med: Face Reality Hydrabalance — apply and allow to absorb fully before applying the Acne Med
Step 3 — Apply Acne Med: Apply a thin layer and allow to dry completely
Important: Do not put anything on top of the Acne Med — applying creams, lotions, or other products over it will block the benzoyl peroxide from entering the pores and significantly reduce its effectiveness
Alternating nights: Face Reality Salicylic+ Serum on off nights for dual-mechanism clearing — never the same night as Acne Med

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from drugstore benzoyl peroxide products?

The formulation base makes all the difference. Most drugstore BP products have a simple gel or cream base that provides no barrier support — the benzoyl peroxide clears the bacteria but also strips the skin of moisture and disrupts the barrier, which can actually worsen oiliness and sensitivity over time. This formula includes sodium hyaluronate and bisabolol specifically to hydrate and calm while the BP works. It's the difference between a product that clears your skin and one that clears your skin while keeping it healthy.

Should I start at 2.5% or go straight to 5%?

Your consultation will make this call based on your skin. Generally I start clients with no prior benzoyl peroxide experience at 2.5% for 4-6 weeks before moving to 5%. Clients who have used BP before and tolerated it well can often start at 5%. More is not always better — acclimating at a lower strength and moving up when ready produces better long-term results than jumping in at the highest concentration and damaging your barrier in the process.

My skin gets dry and flaky when I use benzoyl peroxide. Will this be different?

Possibly yes — the sodium hyaluronate and bisabolol in this formula are specifically there to address that problem. That said, dryness from BP is also a protocol issue — using it too frequently, too soon, or without a good moisturizer will cause dryness regardless of formulation. Make sure you're applying Clearaderma or Barrier Care after it absorbs, and follow your consultation protocol rather than increasing frequency on your own timeline.

Can I use this with the Salicylic+ Serum?

Yes — but not on the same night. These two actives are a powerful combination when alternated: Salicylic+ one evening to clear pores and exfoliate, 2.5% Advanced Acne Med the next evening to kill bacteria. Together they address acne from two completely different mechanisms. Your consultation will map out the exact alternating schedule for your skin.
