Size: 1 oz / 30ml | Use: Evening only

What it does for your skin

A sophisticated evening treatment cream that delivers the anti-aging power of retinaldehyde — the most effective non-prescription form of vitamin A — through a patented Hydrosome® sustained-release delivery system that minimizes irritation while maximizing results. Alongside retinaldehyde, this formula combines adenosine, resveratrol, bakuchiol, two plant stem cell extracts (Butterfly Bush and Papyrus), niacinamide, and a 30-botanical complex to renew, firm, brighten, and protect skin comprehensively. Rated 5 stars from 35 reviews with 100% recommending it — including from estheticians reporting results on their most sensitive and rosacea-prone clients.

Key benefits

  • Retinaldehyde Hydroxysomes® — stabilized, sustained-release retinal that minimizes irritation while delivering real vitamin A results

  • 5 stars from 35 reviews — 100% recommend rate

Best for

All skin types including sensitive, rosacea-prone, and barrier-compromised skin. Particularly ideal for clients who want retinol results but have been scared off by irritation, peeling, or the classic retinol purge. The sustained-release Hydrosome® delivery system makes this one of the most tolerable professional-grade retinaldehyde treatments available.

How to use

Apply as the finishing step of your evening skincare routine — after serum, before nothing. Start with 1-3 nights per week and increase frequency only as tolerated. Apply to completely dry skin. Always use SPF 50 every morning without exception — vitamin A increases sun sensitivity. Do not use on the same night as other acid exfoliants unless directed.

Jasmine's note

“Retinaldehyde is my preferred form of vitamin A for sensitive clients. It converts more gently than retinol but delivers similar results over time — smoother texture, less fine lines, better tone. What sets this formula apart is the Hydrosome® delivery system — the retinal is stabilized and released gradually rather than hitting the skin all at once, which is exactly why sensitive clients who've never tolerated a retinoid can use this without a problem. I've used it on clients with rosacea and barrier compromise who wants resurfacing AND moisturizing in one step — the retinol and lactic acid combo genuinely smooths and renews, while the brighteners tackle pigmentation at the same time. It really is a one and done."

Key ingredients

  • RetinAl (Retinaldehyde) Hydroxysomes® — retinaldehyde is one step closer to retinoic acid than retinol, making it more potent and faster-acting; the Hydrosome® encapsulation stabilizes it and releases it gradually into the skin, dramatically reducing the irritation that makes most retinoids difficult to tolerate; boosts cell turnover, smooths fine lines, firms, and improves texture
  • Adenosine Hydroxysomes® — adenosine is the body's primary cellular energy molecule; delivered via Hydrosome® into the skin it increases cellular energy production, stimulates collagen matrix formation, and accelerates the skin's natural repair processes
  • Resveratrol Hydroxysomes® — the same potent antioxidant found in red wine, delivered via Hydrosome® for maximum skin penetration; inhibits the oxidative enzymes that accelerate aging, provides powerful anti-inflammatory protection, and detoxifies skin from environmental damage
  • Bakuchiol — plant-derived natural retinol alternative from the babchi plant; promotes collagen production, minimizes pores, and brightens skin tone without any of the irritation associated with synthetic retinoids; works synergistically with the retinaldehyde for enhanced renewal
  • Buddleja Davidii (Butterfly Bush) Meristem Cell Culture — plant stem cells from the Butterfly Bush that specifically protect skin stem cells against UV aging and oxidative stress; rich in natural hydrating polysaccharides
  • Cyperus Papyrus Leaf Cell Extract (Papyrus Stem Cells) — stem cells from the ancient papyrus plant that strengthen skin barrier function and support resilience
  • Niacinamide — controls sporadic melanin activity to fade dark spots, minimizes pore appearance, and improves skin elasticity; works alongside the retinaldehyde to calm any inflammatory response
  • Saccharide Isomerate — long-lasting hydration molecule that binds moisture to skin for hours; specifically counters the drying tendency of retinoids during the adjustment period
  • Sodium Hyaluronate & Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer — dual hyaluronic acid system hydrating at both the surface and deeper skin layers
  • Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Fruit Extract — natural UV protection, reduces redness, soothes skin, and rich in anti-inflammatory phytosterols
  • Chlorella Vulgaris Extract — mineral-rich freshwater green algae that protects against environmental damage and provides skin-firming benefit
  • Cucumis Melo Cantalupensis (Cantaloupe) Fruit Extract — rich in vitamins A and C and lycopene; protects against oxidative stress and calms irritated skin
  • Hydroxyapatite — calcium phosphate mineral that supports skin structure and provides a subtle skin-smoothing effect
  • Squalane — skin-identical non-comedogenic emollient that nourishes the barrier during retinoid treatment
  • Bisabolol & Dipotassium Glycyrrhizinate — calming and anti-inflammatory botanical duo that reduces any potential reactivity from the retinaldehyde

Complete your routine

PRO Retinal-Plus is your evening active — build your PM anti-aging routine around it:

  • Cleanse first with: Face Reality Ultra Gentle Cleanser or Barrier Balance Creamy Cleanser — a gentle cleanser is essential when using retinaldehyde
  • Layer underneath: Lira Clinical PRO Firming Serum before the treatment cream for a concentrated peptide and retinal evening protocol
  • Moisturize after if needed: Lira Clinical BIO Lift Creme or BIO Caviar Creme on very dry nights — apply over the treatment cream if extra nourishment is needed
  • Morning must-have: Lira Clinical Elio SPF Drops or Face Reality powerMineral SPF 50 — mandatory every morning when using any vitamin A product
  • Morning antioxidant: Lira Clinical MYSTIQ Infused C Serum in the AM — antioxidants in the morning, retinal at night is the gold-standard anti-aging protocol
  • Alternate nights: Face Reality GlowTone Corrective Serum on off-retinal nights to address hyperpigmentation while retinal handles texture and firming
  • Gentler option: If this formula is still too active for very reactive skin, Face Reality Retinal B3 Serum is formulated with niacinamide specifically for the most sensitive skin types

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between retinaldehyde, retinol, and retinoic acid?

All three are forms of vitamin A but they work at different potencies. Retinoic acid (tretinoin) is prescription-only — immediately active but causes significant irritation for most people. Retinol is two conversion steps away from retinoic acid — widely available but slow to convert and often irritating. Retinaldehyde (retinal) is only one conversion step away — faster-acting and more potent than retinol while still significantly gentler than prescription retinoic acid. The Hydrosome® delivery in this formula takes it further — the retinal is stabilized and released gradually, making it tolerable for clients who've failed with every other retinoid.

What are Hydroxysomes® and why do they matter?

Hydroxysomes® are a patented Lira Clinical delivery system — microscopic encapsulation vessels that stabilize active ingredients (retinaldehyde, adenosine, resveratrol) and release them gradually after application. This matters for two reasons: it prevents the actives from degrading before they reach the skin, and it releases them slowly rather than all at once — which is why this formula causes dramatically less irritation than standard retinaldehyde products at equivalent concentrations. The delivery technology is as important as the ingredients themselves.

Can I use this if I have rosacea or very sensitive skin?

Yes — and this is specifically one of the reasons I carry this product. Estheticians in Lira's reviews specifically call out rosacea and barrier-compromised clients tolerating this when nothing else worked. The Hydrosome® sustained release, the bakuchiol buffering, and the bisabolol and glycyrrhizinate calming complex make this one of the most tolerable retinoid formulas I've found for reactive skin. Start at once per week and give it four weeks before increasing frequency.

Why does this contain bakuchiol alongside retinaldehyde?

Bakuchiol is a plant-derived ingredient that activates the same retinoid receptors as vitamin A without the irritation. When used alongside retinaldehyde it creates a synergistic effect — both ingredients working on the same cellular pathway simultaneously for enhanced results at lower individual concentrations. It also provides natural anti-inflammatory and pore-minimizing benefits that help offset any potential reactivity from the retinaldehyde. It's a thoughtful formulation decision that makes the product both more effective and more tolerable.
